The first podcast is on its way

3 08 2009

I have begun work on the pilot episode of The Melbourne Dérive. I went to a clothing swap last Monday night and interviewed the organisers and some of the participants.
It’s organised by a group called The Clothing Exchange who came up with the idea back in 2004 to get a group of people together to swap clothes they no longer want.

The event I went to was called My Sister’s Wardrobe and the way it worked was very simple, and lots of fun. We turned up from 6:30pm at The Atrium in Federation Square. We payed $20 ($18 if you booked online) and could bring up to 6 garments to swap. The clothes were checked for quality before they were accepted and you recieve a button for every item.

While everyone registered we got to enjoy a free drink at Jolimont Expresso. Once everyone was ready they explained the rules, eg. put back items if you decide you don’t want them so other people can have a look, be nice, blah, blah, blah. Then we were in! It was a little crowded, apparently this was a busy swap, but it was till easy to look at what was there.

And the cool thing was you didn’t miss out if you didn’t want to rush in. I hung back and took photos, and when I eventually got in there was still lots of stuff on the racks.

I interviewed a few ladies (it was all ladies) before and some after. Got some photos of people’s finds and the event in action. I had a chat with the lovely Kate who explained a little of the background.

So now to editing. And soon Podcast #1 will be here!
